Occupational health, safety, and environment are three critical factors for paint and paint-related products. The Nebest-COT laboratory can conduct research or testing for you in all of these areas.<\/p>\n
Regarding food safety, we can perform tests to obtain food approval, which is a certification for paints or coatings that come into contact with liquid or solid foodstuffs. We conduct these tests in accordance with Commission Regulation (EU) No 10\/2011 of 14 January 2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.<\/p>\n
We can also perform comparable tests for the American counterpart of this Regulation, the FDA 21 CFR 175.300 (2012) regulation – resinous and polymeric coatings, substances for use as components of coatings.<\/p>\n
For drinking water coatings, we test according to KIWA BRL-K746, as well as two American standards for the “Interior and Exterior of steel water pipelines,” respectively: AWWA C210-07 (Liquid-Epoxy Coating Systems) and AWWA C222-08 (Polyurethane Coatings).<\/p>\n
Since 2014, there has been a single European Ecolabel for indoor and outdoor paints and varnishes. This refers to the EU document titled Commission Decision of 28 May 2014 establishing the ecological criteria for the award of the EU Ecolabel for indoor and outdoor paints and varnishes<\/em> with number 2014\/312\/EU.<\/p>\n The Ecolabel for paints involves various provisions and limit values that must be demonstrated by independent third parties. This includes, among others, formaldehyde, spreading rate, adhesion, weathering, water vapor permeability, water permeability, fungal resistance, crack bridging, and alkali resistance. Depending on the type of product, certain provisions may not need to be carried out.<\/p>\n Several paints from Dutch and foreign paint manufacturers have already been tested according to the European Ecolabel criteria in the Nebest-COT laboratory.<\/p>\n Analyses for heavy metals and PAHs are frequently requested. During maintenance work on coated bridges, locks, tanks, pipes, or other objects, it is often important to know whether and to what extent heavy metals and\/or PAHs are present in the coating layer to be removed. Using suitable analytical techniques, the laboratory can determine which and how many heavy metals or PAHs are present in the old paint system. This is vital information for both the client and the contractor performing the maintenance work.<\/p>\n The laboratory can also assist you regarding the Toys Directive (AMvB 2011) or other regulations that set maximum values for the content of certain metals in paint.<\/p>\n We measure emissions from paints, adhesives, sealants, board materials, or other construction products according to various standards.
