A small (paint) flake or a few drops of wet product are sufficient to obtain an accurate infrared spectrum with which the binder can be identified. The infrared spectrum is a graph that displays the absorption or transmission of radiation as a function of the irradiated energy or wavelength.<\/p>\n<p>The term &#8216;fingerprint&#8217; is often encountered as a characterization of a paint, and this frequently refers to the infrared spectrum.
